Post-Publication Discussion

Post-Publication Discussion

Scholarly discussion continues after an article is published. VARIANSI welcomes comments, questions, and critiques of the articles we publish, and we handle them through the editors so that authors can respond.

How to submit a comment

Email variansi@unm.ac.id with the article title, DOI, your name and affiliation, and your comment. Comments should:

  • refer directly to the published article;
  • rest on evidence or sound scientific reasoning, such as data, a calculation, or a cited source;
  • stay factual and respectful.

We do not consider comments that attack authors personally, make claims without evidence, or fall outside the article’s content. We do not host public comments on article pages.

How we handle a comment

  1. The Editor-in-Chief reads the comment and decides what kind of matter it is:
    • Scholarly discussion: a disagreement over methods, interpretation, or conclusions. Disagreement alone is not an error or misconduct.
    • Error: a mistake in the article. We handle it under the Correction and Retraction page.
    • Integrity concern: possible fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other misconduct. We handle it under the Allegation of Research Misconduct page.
  2. For scholarly discussion, we send the comment to the corresponding author and invite a reply within 14 days.
  3. The editors, with a reviewer if needed, decide whether the comment adds to the discussion.
  4. If it does, we publish it as a Letter to the Editor, together with the authors’ reply when they send one. Both link to the original article and the article links to them. If the authors do not reply, we publish the letter and note that.
  5. We tell the person who commented about the outcome. We may decline a comment that does not meet the criteria above.

Authors who are asked to respond are expected to cooperate with reasonable requests for clarification or data. A comment does not delay or change the status of the article. If the exchange shows an error or a misconduct concern, the editors act under the relevant policy.

Conflicts of interest

Anyone who comments must disclose a relationship with the authors or the research that could affect their view. An editor with a conflict of interest does not handle the comment.
